Kaliko would never ask, but if there’s ever a time that a friend needed help, it’s now. So I’m starting a gofundme page to get her back on her feet.
She’s lost everything in the fire, her home, her place of business, everything. She grabbed her pictures and her computer and made it out with Cameron just in time with the clothes on their back.
Her biggest concern is for her chickens. She is the sole owner of an egg farm, which provides non-GMO eggs to grocery stores and farmers markets across LA. Her chickens are her “girls” and she had to release 1000 at the last minute and doesn’t know how many may have survived.
Right now she’s actually at a farmers market selling the eggs she had left. She also had to take Cameron to a Target to buy new clothes. They’re just trying to keep it together.
We become so complacent in our lives that we forget it can all change in a second.
It’s not sure what insurance will cover, but her friend Joni Martin suggested what she needs right now is a place to stay which would include first and last months rent. She’s also lost all her business equipment which she needs to keep her company going, clothes, furniture, food.
Her friends have suggested that she needs at least $10k to stay afloat. We can make that happen if all of us give at least $100. But any amount you can give would be great.
The money will be transferred from my linked gofundme checking account directly to Kaliko's Paypal account as soon as it is released by gofundme (2-5 days). The funds will be used by Kaliko for whatever she needs most right now. She's been reluctant to take any money, saying that others have lost more. I told her to take the money and give it to them if she likes, but there's a lot of people who want to make sure it goes to you. Take the money and know that we all love you.
Kaliko has been in my life forever and she’s one of the most caring and generous people I know. She’s raised two fabulous kids, started her own business from scratch, and she’s tough as nails.
But right now, she needs our help. And in today’s crazy world where everything is chaos, this is an easy decision for me.
