Kal's Battle Against Lyme Disease

Donation protected
Kal Thompson is the 38 year old son of Keith & Lynn Thompson of Swainsboro, GA.

Kal is battling chronic Lyme disease.

Just over a year ago, Kal was a healthy young man, full of vigor and ambition. He had just been hired as the Chief Tax Appraiser in a nearby county and was in the prime of his life.

Then one day he came down with what he thought was the flu, but instead of gradually getting better, he started to become easily fatigued, his joints started hurting and insomnia set in and his sleep pattern completely changed, disrupting his day to day routine.

This continued for months, gradually getting worse despite treatment from local doctors.  In that short period of time due to his medical issues, Kal was unable to function at his work, lost his job, and had to move back in with his parents.

Besides the drastic weight loss he's experienced, Kal endures rashes, neurological Issues, joint pain, swollen lymph nodes and fatigue, on a daily basis.

Before he was properly diagnosed with Lyme, Kal saw several doctors and specialists who diagnosed him with other common ailments, but his conditioned only worsened.

Finally, after the 2nd or 3rd attempt a specialist was able to identify the cause (Lyme) but by then the disease had established a foothold and severely weakened Kals immune system and it now has gotten to a stage where the symptoms are overwhelming and is disabling .

He and his parents are now in Tampa Florida for the next 12 to 16 weeks where Kal will be undergoing daily treatments for 5 hours each day.  The out of pocket cost for the treatments alone run $5,000.00 per week, and Lyme is one of the rare diseases not covered by health insurance.

Additionally the family is paying for lodging, food, and other incidental living expenses.  As anyone knows who has been through this, those expenses can easily add an additonal $1,200-$1,500 per week.

If you're wondering why Kal's parents chose to come with Kal for the treatments, the answer lies in how Lyme disease affects the brain.

The symptoms of cronic Lyme disease are similar to those with  Parkinson’s disease, ALS, depression and Alzheimer’s disease.   With these conditions, Kal needs a support system and thankfully his parents are able to be there during this time.

Any donation, no matter how small can make a positive impact on Kal and his family as they battle this insidious disease.

Please remeber this family in your prayers and lets help them through this crisis.
