Kade Barber Fund

Kade is the three-year-old son of Jessie and Allie Barber, and has four other siblings.  After an almost two year journey, Kade was diagnosed with SCID (Severe Combined Immunodeficiency)  in January of 2018.  SCID is a disease where an individual’s immune system doesn’t work properly causing them to not have the ability to fight off any disease they may come in contact with. We have started immune therapy for Kade and are taking extreme precautions to keep him safe.

In September, we were sent to Cincinnati Children’s for a second opinion for the best action for Kade’s health care. It was at this appointment we discovered that without a bone marrow transplant, Kade’s disease is terminal. We also found out that with the mutation he has, the disease will begin to slowly shut down all of his vital organs. This process has already begun in that his lungs are beginning to slowly shut down. The best course of action is for Kade to have a bone marrow transplant.

Kade’s medical team wants to move quickly to get him ready for a bone marrow transplant. We already have signed a form to search for a donor and have had a great response in finding a match. We are focusing on getting Kade’s lungs as healthy as possible. Kade’s medical team has a series of tests and procedures planned to complete by the end of October 2018 to find out what is an option for him.

Once the process of the bone marrow transplant begins, Kade will have to undergo a series of intense chemotherapy treatments and then he will have a 4-6 week stay in the hospital once the new bone marrow is introduced to his system. After Kade is released from the hospital he will have to stay in the Cincinnati area for another 3-6 months for day hospital visits.

Jessie and Allie have worked hard to make sure all the kids will not be extremely affected by this drastic change but will need help making it happen.

Allie will be staying in the hospital with Kade during this process since only one parent is allowed to stay the night with him. There are extreme rules in place to make sure all patients stay in the most sterile environment as possible. Jessie will be going back and forth from Mayfield, Kentucky  to Cincinnati, Ohio  to keep in touch with the other four kids.

Kade’s parents spend their days helping others, and are in need of your help!

Anything that you give will help with hospital costs, treatment plans, missed days from work, and all the other monetary costs that come with fighting SCID .

Please check back frequently, and give as much as you can - we will post regular updates so that you can see how your generosity is helping this little guy overcome this big medical challenge!
