Richard Stokes was diagnosed with a malignant tumor in the right side of his face in late October 2015.
Archie his beautiful little 4-year-old son accidentally head-butted Richard while playing. This caused Richard to go in for minor surgery on his nose where the doctor discovered the tumor.
Once the biopsy results came back it was all hands on deck to get Richard into hospital a.s.a.p.
Richard had his surgery on Friday, 13th November 2015, where the operation took 16 hours and was a success.
Richard has lost his right cheekbone, some of his palate, some teeth and some bone in his jaw. Going into surgery the doctors were unsure if he would lose his right eye. The surgeons were able to save his right eye and hopefully his vision will return to normal as he heals.
As of today Sunday, 15th November, Richard is still in Intensive Care but the recovery is going really well. He is alert and was able to start communicating by writing today.
Going forward he will require reconstructive surgery once he is healed. As I said to him maybe they can make you better looking, at least that made him laugh. Richard still has a long road ahead, with radiation and chemotherapy treatment to come.
Richard is the General Manager and Golf Professional at Narrabri Golf Course. I know the support of all the locals in Narrabri has totally overwhelmed Richard and Nadia (his wife).
Richard, Nadia and Archie have had to leave their home in Narrabri and move to Sydney for Richards’s treatment. They will be living in Sydney for approximately 6 months.
Unfortunately during this period, mortgage payments and bills don’t stop. On top of the day-to-day bills there will be all of Richards’s medical expenses.
We are asking everyone to please help Richard, Nadia and Archie through this horrific time and allow Richard to get back to 100% health with out any financial stress. As they say every dollar counts.
