Our barn was built about 100 years ago and has stood the test of time. Raging winds, driving rain, the blazing sun, even a fire. Generation after generation it has provided shelter and a safe haven for the animals that have lived within it.
Three years ago we moved here and saw the barn as an amazing structure to provide the heritage livestock that we raise with a safe secure place to eat, sleep, and raise their young. Our farm is called "Regeneration Acres" because we want it to be a place where the land, animals, and people- on it and that are fed from it- are a part of regenerating the land. Because what is best for the animals is best for the people and is best for the land. Everyone wins when animals are raised the right way.
But doing things the right way isn't the best way to get rich; in fact most of the time when we're working our "real" jobs it's to pay for our "farming habit." So there isn't funding to do the rehabilitation that is becoming more urgently needed. The barn is in incredible shape overall for its age but has an increasingly crucial need for some love: the foundation needs some renovation and support since it’s bowed under the weight of a century and the roof needs a new covering. Both of these things need to happen to keep the barn intact so that it can last another 100 years and be a place of safety and comfort for the animals that live within it.
