Education for Gaza

This fundraising campaign aims to provide partial scholarships for Palestinian students in Gaza Strip who are enrolled at Palestinian universities and are struggling to continue their studies because they live below the poverty line.
A pilot project was launched in late 2017, and 60 scholarships of $200 value were funded by Viva Palestina Malaysia. This enabled scholarship recipients to register at their universities for the first semester of the 2017/2018 academic year. The pilot project was implemented by the Palestinian Educational Forum and supervised by the Turkish NGO Gaza Destek Association, which have selected the scholarship receipients based on need and academic potential.
In early February 2018 an additional number of 15 partial scholarships were provided by Viva Palestina Malaysia and on 13 February 2018 an anonymous donor has pledged to support the project with 50 partial scholarships ($100 each). On 27 March 2018, an additional number of 60 partial scholarships was generously provided by the Indonesian Organisation KNRP ($100 each) and on 10 April 2018 Viva Palestina Malaysia funded an additional 95 partial scholarships ($100 each).
280 partial scholarships of $100-$200 value have so far been provided.
A place of 360sqm where 2 million people live, the Gaza Strip is one of the most impoverished places on earth. According to an increasing number of UN reports, by 2020 the place is to become altogether uninhabitable. Under such conditions nearly 54,000 Palestinians in Gaza Strip could not continue their education in 2016 due to their inability to pay tuition fees. This is despite the fact that the cost of an entire 4-year BA degree program in Gaza Strip does not exceed £4000.
This campaign aims to secure the necessary funds for the next stages of the project, in order to enable the current scholarship receipients to finish their education and to establish the necessary grounds for increasing the number of scholarship receipients in the future.
