My Story: Prostate Cancer Awareness

My name is a Richard A. Winder, Sr. and I am a 9 year survivor of Prostate Cancer. My journey with this deadly disease started in 2005. After religiously having annual Prostate Cancer screenings(both PSA and DRE) starting at age 40 for a period of 18 years without any signs of cancer, at age 58 medical personnel discovered a malignancy on my Prostate. Of course  I was devastated by not discouraged because of my faith in the Lord. After undergoing surgery to removed the Prostate, I am now cancer free. My mission since September 15, 2005 is to tell my story and to educate other men of the dangers of this deadly disease. You see, I had no symptoms whatsoever. I had annual screenings and all was well until that fateful day that test number 19 indicated a potential problem existed. My campaign is simply this: Without warning--Prostate Cancer  can be present and you do not know it! All donations will be directed to an educational program which will provide vital material to all men over 30 years old. While these services are available to all men, the specific target population will be homeless men or men with little or no access to medical care. Funds will also be used to provide transportation to men who are not capable of negotiating local transportation such as buses or cabs. Our goal is to purchase a 15 passenger van to achieve this objective. In addition, when there are no free Prostate Screenings available, the campaign will cover the cost of the screenings for those individuals who cannot afford this expense.The campaign will contiue to assist me  in my 9 year effort to provide these services to an underseved population.
