Help Me Get Vocal Cord Surgery
Donation protected
30 years ago, I was involved in a car accident, the results being that I ended up needing a trachaeotomy. While I was being wheeled into the operating room, the attendants shoved a paper in my hands and told me that I needed to sign it. It was a release form - absolving them of any wrong doing, should anything go wrong.
I remember telling them that something was going to happen during the surgery... that I was scared. They reassured me that everything would be ok, but that I needed to sign that release form. I wanted to breathe again, so I signed it (under anesthesia).
I was told that during the surgery, the surgeon knicked one of my vocal cords and caused it to be paralyzed... leaving me with a raspy voice. My dream of one day being a singer was gone... I have not been able to get a good job because I find it hard to communicate verbally with people. And, it is getting harder and harder to speak... harder to physically get the words out. My voice breaks and people can not understand me much of the time. I have also begun wheezing when I try to speak.
This surgery would help me regain my confidence, allow me to get a better paying job and perhaps allow me to sing again!
I found a surgeon who is willing to take my case, however he is in Massachusetts, I am in Wisconsin, and I cannot afford to get there for the surgery. That is what this GoFundMe is for... funds to allow me to get to Massachusetts.
Update: I found out that BadgerCare is not accepted as payment... so the price of the surgery is approximately $2500.
