On Monday, March 12, 2018, Joshua Roche was gunned down on his way to work and left to die in the streets. Joshua Roche was born a statistic of the streets of Newark, but Joshua Roche did not die a statitistic. His dark beginnings in life led him down a dark path of pain, suffering, crimes and illegal activities. He spent his life in and out of jail. Ultimately that path led him to a halfway house in Newark and then to the place that would change his life forever. He was able to work outside of the halfway house and gained employment in a re-entry program sponsored by Forem Facility.
That, is where Joshua found a new life, a second chance to make things right. That, is where Josh was recognized for the good man he truly could be and was. They gave him the chance in life he needed. He started working on the floor doing manual labor and worked his way up to a desk job and a supervisory position. He was mentoring other halfway house inmates. He took pride in himself and in his work. So much so, that he was offered an opportunity to stay on full time when he was done with the halfway house in June. He took it seriously for himself, his future and above all, his family. He was ready to be a hard working member of society and it gave him something to come home to, instead of the life of the streets. Sadly, Josh would never see that day. Either the past came back to haunt him or the jealousy of those around him, who could not achieve what he had achieved, chose to destroy him when he was at his very best and happiest in life.
Josh is survived by his elderly grandmother, by his fiancée Jennifer, the woman who would sacrifice everything and fight for Josh' rehabilitation and by his two beautiful little girls, who only knew what a wonderful and loving father he was. They have been left with nothing but the ashes of the man they loved. The money he had set aside for his family has been seized in red tape and now his fiancée is left to cover debts incurred by the family and to raise their girls on her own. Unexpected expenses have hit this small family very hard as well, and his fiancée must ensure the well being of his daughters during this trying time. It is a temporary setback, but a setback that can put them in dire straits in the near future if they can not pull themselves out now. Your donations can help keep them out of permanent debt and provide for his fiancée to care for his daughters' critical needs until she can get back on her feet.
