Justice for Cherry Mae Dayo

Donation protected
She was a sweet young lady whose only dream was to get a college degree as an elementary school teacher.
She was a smart girl with a great future ahead for her.
She had worked hard for it balancing her work, family obligations and schoolwork. She had worked as a caregiver for an old lady who was bedridden for over 5 years and whom she loved like her own mother. When my mom died in 2013, she chose to stay and live in the house alone. We wanted to invite her to come to Canada to stay with us but her calling was strong to stay in the Philippines and teach young children in the rural areas. Her heart belongs to these poor children she had hoped to teach someday. She comes from a small town in Misamis Oriental, Mindanao, Philippines where you have to walk many kilometers to get to the main road. She would have finished her schooling next year.

From the small income that she earned, she would right away bring the money to her father who is half-paralyzed after suffering a stroke in 2015. Her mother had been recently discharged from the hospital due to poor health. From the little that she earned, she sends her siblings to school hopeful that one day, they would all be lifted up from poverty. She was the sole breadwinner of the family

Last night, drug addicts broke into the house and raped her. After raping her, they stabbed her with a  butcher's knife in the upper chest. She managed to run outside the house  and seek help but died hours later in the hospital.

This is a cry for help so that we may continue to send her small siblings to school and give hope to the family that have struggled in poverty over the years. This is a cry for justice. This is a cry for compassion. This is a cry for survival of those whose lives depended on her.

Let us continue her unfinished job of sending her young siblings to school so that someday, they may still say, it is still a beautiful world; that long ago, there was someone who reached out and cared.
