Just 4 You
My name is Asher Thompson and I am a 17 year old junior at Thornton Academy in Saco, Maine. I am currently working on a service project which I created and which will directly benefit foster care children in my local community.
Growing up in the Saco/Biddeford area, I encountered many students in my classrooms and community that had been placed in the foster care system. I noticed that many of them had only a few personal belongings. As I read more about children in foster care, I learned that they are often abruptly removed from their homes with little time to gather any personal goods. Often, they are not allowed to return to their homes to retrieve their possessions, and therefore have very few things, if any at all, that are their own. After much thought, I have designed a project to meet this need in a small but effective way so these children can have something of their own. The name of my project is entitled: Just 4 You, which aims to directly benefit foster care children ages 5-10 in my local community by providing them with four items that I believe every child should be able to call their own: a bag, a blanket, a stuffed animal, and a book. I have partnered with the Adoptive and Foster Families of Maine, which grants their full support and 501(c)(3) status.
My goal for the Just 4 You project is to provide 50 duffle bags filled with a blanket, a book, and a stuffed animal to the Adoptive and Foster Families of Maine. They, in turn, will distribute them to children in our local foster care community. These bags will help ensure that each child has several items that belong to them. They will bring comfort and security and will hopefully
be used for years to come. Any donation, large or small, is greatly appreciated. Thank you so much for all your support!
