Jumapo Clinic Development

Help us raise money to develop our clinic so we can get the healthcare we need!

Jumapo is a town about 5 Km from Koforidua, the Eastern Regional capital of Ghana. The town has a Clinic which was built about 60 years ago serving a population of about 100,000 including residents of nearby villages and towns. In January 2019, we visited the clinic and were devastated by the deteriorated state of a once well renowned healthcare facility.

One of the most poignant sights was the existing toilet which is an ancient squat type toilet constructed over 60 years ago. The toilet had no WC facilities with very unhygienic conditions, which can increase risk of infectious diseases. In addition, we highlighted several other issues such as run down furnishing and equipment and a broken refrigerator meaning no medicine requiring refrigeration can be stored on site. The patient records room was chaotic and disorganised highlighting a need for an up to date patient record system. The clinic also lacked diagnostic capabilities, with no equipment for simple blood pressure and basic urine and blood tests. There is no onsite staff accommodation at the clinic, meaning no incentive to stay and work at the facility and no 24 access to medical staff.

We took immediate action to tackle some of the pressing issues at the clinic and formed the Jumapo Development Association.

Our top three priorities are to ;

·       Build a modern toilet for staff and patient use

·       Construct onsite staff accommodation

·       Refurbish the main block with new hospital equipment

We have already cleared the land and started the the foundation for a new modern toilet.  We have volunteers for 90% of the labour costs but we need YOUR help to develop our clinic to an acceptable standard so the people in our village can receive the healthcare they need.
