Juba Girls Football Team

UPDATE: We reached our initial goal! Thank you! With the contributions received so far we have secured enough funding to provide all the things we were fundraising for: uniforms, shoes, improved goals, balls, training gear and other materials. We are keeping the campaign open to allow more people to support the Juba girls football team. All additional funding raised from now on will go towards making extra contributions to benefit the players, we will be sure to keep donors posted on the details as soon as we have have clarity on how much additional budget we have available. We are fundraising to support our Juba girls football team, any contribution you can make will be tremendously helpful!

Eight months ago, a group of friends working in Juba (South Sudan) started volunteering to start a girls football team in the neighbourhood of Nyakuron West. The initiative came at the request of the Parish of Holy Trinity who opened their community centre for the girls to play. Led by Maca, our head coach, the group of volunteers has grown and the girl’s team has turned into a huge success. More than 50 girls from ages 10-18 are currently registered and the space for the girls to practice twice a week has been secured within the community. The girls are improving their skills every week, taking responsibilities in managing the practices and taking care of their equipment, learning to communicate with one another and having a lot of fun in the process.

During the first months our volunteer group focused on getting the girls team up and running and making sure all the pieces were in place for it to last. Now that we’ve made a lot of progress in that front we are asking for your help to take the Juba girls football team to the next level! We are crowdfunding so that we can cover the following expenses:

- Uniforms: We would like the girls to have proper uniforms for the first time as we are getting ready to play against other teams in Juba.

- Football Shoes: The dirt pitch where the girls play is very rough and many of the players are barefoot or playing in flip-flips. We want to make sure they all have proper shoes to play football and reduce the risk of cuts and injuries.

- Balls and other materials: We have already purchased some basic materials for the girls to practice (and received amazing donations from our friends Alberto and Cristina!!), but we still need a lot more now that the group is growing. We would like to purchase more balls, improve our goals, ensure we have enough training materials like cones and practice jerseys, and make ID cards to formalize the team registration.

Estamos recaudando fondos para apoyar a nuestro equipo de fútbol femenino en Juba, ¡cualquier contribución que quieras hacer nos resultará tremendamente útil!

Hace ocho meses un grupo de amigos que trabajamos en Juba (Sudán del Sur) empezamos a colaborar de manera voluntaria para montar un equipo de fútbol femenino en el barrio de Nyakuron West. La iniciativa empezó a petición de la parroquia Holy Trinity, que abrió su centro comunitario para que las chicas pudiesen jugar al fútbol. Bajo el liderazgo de Maca, nuestra entrenadora principal, el grupo de voluntarios ha ido creciendo y el equipo femenino se ha convertido en un éxito absoluto. Más de 50 niñas de 10-18 años de edad están registradas y se ha logrado asegurar el espacio dentro de la comunidad para que las chicas entrenen dos veces por semana. Las jugadoras mejoran cada semana, asumen responsabilidades en la organización de los entrenamientos y el cuidado del material, aprenden a comunicarse entre ellas y se divierten muchísimo.

Durante los primeros meses los voluntarios nos centramos en poner en marcha el equipo y asegurarnos de que la iniciativa fuese sostenible. Tras haber avanzado mucho, ¡ahora pedimos vuestra ayuda para llevar a nuestro equipo de fútbol femenino en Juba al siguiente nivel! Estamos haciendo ‘crowdfunding’ para cubrir los siguientes gastos:

- Uniformes: Queremos que las chicas tengan uniformes por primera vez ya que nos estamos preparando para jugar contra otros equipos femeninos en Juba.

- Botas de fútbol: El campo de tierra donde juegan las chicas es muy duro y muchas de las chicas juegan descalzas o en chanclas. Queremos asegurarnos de que todas tengan botas adecuadas para jugar al fútbol y reducir el riesgo de cortes y lesiones.

- Balones y otros materiales: Ya hemos comprado algunos materiales básicos para que las chicas puedan entrenar (¡y recibimos una donación espectacular de nuestros amigos Alberto y Cristina!), pero aún necesitamos mucho más material ahora que el equipo está creciendo. Nos gustaría comprar más balones, mejorar las porterías, asegurarnos de que tenemos material de entrenamiento suficiente (como conos y petos), y hacer carnets para las jugadoras y mejorar el registro del equipo.
