CAMPAIGN FOR BRIDGET ELMES

Bridget Elmes is a 46 year old mother of two.  Her son's are 17 and 11 years old. Three years ago Bridget was diagnosed with breast cancer and underwent a double mastectomy.  This past summer, after just seeing her business kick into high gear, she was once again diagnosed with cancer - stage four metastatic breast cancer.  It is rare but the cancer metastasized to her skin.  This is not the same as skin cancer.  To make matters worse it is a very aggressive form of cancer. Bridget started treatment via chemotherapy in December.  It was then discovered that she required a spinal decompressIon which, if left untreated, could have rendered her unable to walk. Two weeks ago on February 1 she had the surgery at Temple University Hospital and was just released and went home on Feb 17.   Because of the surgery Bridget could not receive all her chemotherapy drugs.  And, in addition, her cancer has spread.  Chemotherapy will continue, followed by radiation.  She will also have to undergo more surgery at the end of these treatments. At the current time it is unknown when Bridget will be able to return to work.  She is not collecting unemployment.  The family is currently living on one income, which is not large enough to provide for all the needs of a family of four - mortgage payments, car payments, food, utilities, medical copays and so forth.    Fighting cancer is not an easy battle.  It is scary and stressful and keeping a positive attitude is of the utmost importance.  Having financial worries only adds to the stress and that stress adversely impacts the immune system.
