Joy Division -  one of rock music's most influential bands played Walthamstow Youth Centre twice in 1979.

To promote the first gig on 30th March 1979 a memorable/infamous poster was created by Martin Comey & Dave Pils of support band SX. Printed on the youth centre's equipment it got centre manager and gig organiser Jasmine Hooper (pictured with Peter Hook) into some bother with her seniors.

Very few original posters have survived but one was obtained by Joy Division/New Order bassist Peter Hook.

Peter Hook is selling his unique and amazing collection of Joy Division/Factory Records  memorabilia and artefacts including this very rare poster.

Hooky's 'Signature Collection' consiting of historic equipment, rare vinyl, unique artwork and much more will be auctioned on March 2nd 2019.  For more information: www.omegaauctions.co.uk

We think this famous poster should come back to Walthamstow and we would like to raise funds for an auction bid.  If we are successful the poster will be donated to Walthamstow's Vestry House museum.

The poster has a start price of £1000 but such is the world-wide interest in Joy Division we think it will achieve much more. In fact, there are already online bids for £1400.

Our target of £1,700 we think represents a realistic bid, more would be better.

The poster will not be sold if it does not achieve the start price. Any monies raised not spent on the bid will be donated equally to Cancer Research/Eat or Heat and Walthamstow Migrants Action Group.

2019 is also the 40th anniversary of Joy Division's landmark debut album release, Unknown Pleasures which the band started recording  two days after the first Walthamstow gig.

Waltham Forest is the Mayor of London's first Borough of Culture and this is a reminder of the borough's surprisingly rich musical heritage.

If we are successful in obtaining this artefact  supporters will be invited to a very special unveiling event at the Vestry House museum.

The fundraising effort will close on 1 March.
