Journey To Refuge

$1,520 of $1,000 goal

On September 30th, The Indiana University Jacob's School of Music Conductor's Chorus will present a program entitled "Journey To Refuge". The center piece of the program is a work by Pulitzer Prize winning composer Caroline Shaw,"To The Hands".

With regards to her piece, the composer says "I’ve made all parts available here. With the understanding that any performance of this piece is accompanied by rigorous solicitation of donations for those without homes (locally and globally), and strong support for active & informed conversation with policy makers. Let us open our hands to those of others. (What are these wounds, in my hands, and in yours?) Walls are not the answer. We are all creatures."

Our intention as artists, students, members of the Bloomington community, and humans is to raise funds in support of Exodus Refugee Immigration , the largest refugee resettlement agency in Indiana. Our hope is that through our art, we can give back to the community and raise funds to assist with transitions -- those who are here now, and those we hope to come.

Please join our efforts by giving to this vital and important organization. Their mission statement says "Exodus Refugee Immigration is dedicated to the protection of human rights by serving the resettlement needs of refugees and other displaced people fleeing persecution, injustice, and war by welcoming them to Indiana."

"In its 36-year history, Exodus has served refugees from more than 33 countries. In 2016, we welcomed 947 refugees from the following countries: Burma, Democratic Republic of Congo, Syria, Afghanistan, Bhutan, Burundi, Central African Republic, China, Cuba, Eritrea, Ethiopia, Honduras, Iran, Iraq, Somalia, Sudan, and Ukraine."
