Let Josh see light at end of tunnel

With a magnifying glass Josh can make out minute images. Now a new danger is threatening the glimmer of sight he cherishes. Josh was diagnosed legally blind over 25 years ago due to two traumatic injuries to his eyes. He has faced many great challenges due to the blindness such as not being able to drive a car, join the military, see a smile on a face, essentially doing all the things that we take for granted. With extremely limited vision he still held employment to the best of his ability. He has developed the aptitude to pursue a passion for metal detecting, using sound to locate vs vision. Josh has helped locate lost items for others, as well as finding and preserving history at the same time. His metal detecting radio show ‘Beyond Sight and Sound’ encourages others to do the same.
However, over the course of the past six months Josh experienced pain and numbness in his legs and back. Gradually losing dexterity, balance, and falling has interrupted his employment. Treatment, testing and diagnosis were difficult and extensive. Initially, Xrays and MRI’s revealed a bulge and tear in his spine. More tests revealed a degenerative arthropathy and an abnormal brain MRI. The last battery of tests showed numerous lesions spread throughout his brain, cervical spine and thoracic spine. Josh was diagnosed with an advanced case of Multiple Sclerosis.
Before his treatment could begin it had to be addressed by an ophthalmologist. MS impacts the eyes and causes optic neuritis, and a cataract on his left eye further negatively impacts what minimal vision he has. This complex situation needs monitoring and exploration of treatments to balance the risk of complete blindness versus MS. The goal is to slow the incurable MS and retain the glimmer of eyesight he cherishes.
Hope for his future is dependent on testing and treatments. The costs to date for Josh’s medical expenses has exceeded $15,000, before administering any medication.
With your support it will greatly diminish the stress and worry associated with this financial burden. This will allow Josh to continue his care and concentrate on living his life as fully as possible and adapt to this latest challenge.
