Joseph Spence's Grave Headstone

Donation protected

"Joseph Spence (August 3, 1910 – March 18, 1984) was a Bahamian guitarist and singer.[1] He is well known for his vocalizations and humming while playing the guitar. Several American musicians, including Taj Mahal,[2] the Grateful Dead,[3] Ry Cooder,[2] Catfish Keith,[4] Woody Mann, and Olu Dara as well as the British guitarist John Renbourn were influenced by and have recorded variations of his arrangements of gospel and Bahamian songs." (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Joseph_Spence_(musician)
Although Joseph Spence is world-reknowned, he lived a very simple live in The Bahamas playing his guitar for anyone who asked, and he died as a Security Officer serving at one of the local Primary Schools.

His grave (along with his wife Louise) sits in Woodlawn Gardens, Nassau, Bahamas, unkempt and unnoticed and sadly most Bahamians do not even know who he is.
This account is an attempt to do right by this National Hero by purchasing and mounting a proper Headstone on his grave, giving him the honor he rightly deserves.

Our Heroes Day has recently passed and his birthday will not be until August, 2018... so it will be a GREAT gesture to begin the year with enough funds to purchase and install the  headstone designed with his image to be followed with some recognized gesture on his birthday.

So join us in making this a reality by donating to this worthy cause and be a part of the beginning of a movement to recognize this GREAT folk guitarist.
