Jose Lopez Accident Relief Fund

Jose Luis Lopez is unlike any other human being in the world. He is a man of many talents, a man of many passions, a man of many exciting journeys, and above all, a man of many many friends.

For anyone who has had the honor of calling him  friend, for anyone with the unique experience of making his acquaintance, heck, for anyone who's merely shaken hands with this kind soul you know there is nobody who makes an impact quite the way Jose does. There's no one who makes you laugh more than he can, no one who makes you feel as good nor lifts you up more than Josie. There's no one with a passion for life more than he.

On the evening of January 29, Joe suffered a devastating motorcycle accident in Los Angeles which left him unconscious for days. Since being rushed to Cedars-Sinai Hospital, he underwent emergency surgery to survive the collision: a craniotomy to relieve swelling on the brain. Miraculously, he regained consciousness on the evening of February 1 and gets more cogent by the day.

That said, Joe still endures brain trauma, a broken hip, contusions on his lungs (though he is now breathing on his own), a fractured scapula, and fractures to the front and back of the c5 vertebrae in his neck--which will eventually need surgery as well.  He is in stable condition and he can move all his limbs, so there is no paralysis from the accident.

He is now surrounded by friends and family that have flown from around the country to be at his bedside.

The greatest unknown now is the path ahead for Jose: what will be his limitations, how long will the road to recovery take, and how much will all this cost? Joe will spend the next month in intensive care at Cedars-Sinai before beginning what is sure to be months of difficult rehabilitation. In order to help offset the enormous financial burden this will place on Jose and the Lopez family, we are humbly reaching out on behalf of our dear friend and brother to ask for your generous assistance.

Here is what every dollar for this campaign will go toward:
-Jose's medical bills (hospital, surgery, ambulance, etc.)
-Jose's monthly bills which will now only mount up during the months he is unable to work.
-Lodging for Jose's mom and dad in Los Angeles. Immediately upon hearing the devastating news about Jose's accident, his parents flew from Florida to L.A. and intend to stay by his side throughout his recovery.  The cost of staying in L.A. during these next few months will place a considerable financial strain on his family, and we want to help alleviate this burden so his parents can be by his side during his recovery process. We’ve already incurred costs for his in-patient rehabilitation, so we’ve set up a joint account which Jon Hollowell (as power of attorney) is responsible for withdrawing all funds from the campaign into.

For all those around the world who have ever known Joe, from Miami to Orlando, from Dr. Phillips High School to Florida State University, from Tokyo to New York City to Los Angeles and every city in between, would you kindly consider giving on behalf of this amazing guy who has given us all so much joy throughout the years? If you don't know Jose personally but this story touches you and you have the wherewithall, your generous gift would be an incredible blessing to Jose and his family in their time of need.

We also ask that whoever reads this, whether able to donate or not, would kindly share this with their own social and professional networks – Facebook, Twitter, church, family and friends, work, etc. The more we are all able to raise, the less of a burden this will place on Jose and his family. Thank you all for opening your hearts. God Bless.
