Jorgito's Surgery for Brain Tumor

Help Jorgito, son of Jorge de Leon (“Lion”), get the surgery he needs.
I’m Leah and I am working with my friend Sylvia to raise funds to assist Jorgito, a boy in Belize with a brain tumor that requires immediate surgery in less than 2 weeks.
Jorgito is the son of our wonderful Belizean friend and colleague Jorge de Leon. Sylvia and I had the pleasure of meeting Jorge in 2014. Since then, he has been our most enthusiastic partner in community based heritage preservation in Belize. Jorge is a tour guide by profession and is known as "Lion" to the friends from all over the world he has made through tours.
Jorge is also one of the most accomplished Maya hieroglyphic hobbyists that we know! He sponsors and organizes hieroglyphic clubs in Belizean schools and he helps us in the annual Succotz Archaeology and Cultural Fairs. Jorge is also incredible kind-hearted and giving. For the last three years, he has organized a day of fun activities at a children's home in Belmopan on his own birthday. He wants to spend his birthday giving joy to kids who are less fortunate. Anyone who knows Jorge and his family will immediately tell you they are wonderful, positive people who are always ready to lend a hand. The de Leons are relying on their strong faith in God to get through this time.
On the 14th of December, Jorge and his family were looking forward to spending their first Christmas with little Melissa, the newest addition to the family when Jorgito, the eldest son, had a seizure. Two more seizures followed before a neurosurgeon in Guatemala City would confirm that this bright 12-year old boy has a brain tumor and needs immediate surgery.
It’s hard to think that in 4 days from the time I type these words, Jorge and his entire family will have been in this ordeal for a month. Through it all, Jorgito has remained positive and was only worried about having to cut off all his hair for the surgery.
The cost for Jorgito’s surgery has been estimated at a flat rate of 100,000 Guatemalan Quetzals ($13,272.28 USD). In addition to this, Jorgito and a family member will have to be in Guatemala City for 5 days prior to the surgery and for 3 months for post-surgery observation. This would be an ordeal for anyone, but it is especially trying for the de Leon family who have a 3-month old baby. It is our hope to raise $15,000 USD to cover Jorgito’s surgery and his stay in pre- and post-op stay in Guatemala City.
All funds raised in this donation campaign will go directly to the de Leon family. We will cover the cost of transferring the funds to Belize. Please contact us through this website if you have any questions.
