Fundraising for Jordy’s buddy ‘Fritzi’.
Jordy has been successfully matched to ‘Fritzi’ the therapy dog - you can help this dream come true...
As you know our son Jordy has a disability called Smith-Magenis Syndrome http://smsaustralia.org/ (SMS) but Jordy is much more than his disability, he is funny, loving and way too talkative.
Jordy does has many challenges in his life, he works hard and with love and support, together as a family we take these challenges on step by step.
He does a number of different therapies but sleep disturbances is a part of SMS that Jordy is heavily impacted by (& the rest of the family too!).
Lack of sleep means he doesn’t get the most out of school learning, his therapy sessions and it also triggers behavioural issues. After trying many natural therapies we decided about two years ago to put him on sleep medication. Whilst the medication has helped, staying asleep and early rising continues to be an issue.
Many of you have been following our story of fostering dogs through ‘Dogs for Kids with Disabilities’ - this is a great organisation we wanted to help and see what response Jordy has to the dogs.
All the dogs have been great until ‘Fritzi’ our fourth dog came along - he is special, I honestly can’t explain it. Over the past four months Jordy and Fritzi’s relationship has grown slowly but solidly. Fritzi now sleeps with Jordy and settles him back to sleep during the night. On average Jordy (& us) get an additional 1-1.5 hours sleep a night, that’s 7-10 hours per week!
These dogs cost a lot to raise, train and match (check out www.dkd.org.au if you want to know more), therefore we are hoping to fundraiser $11,000 so we can keep Fritzi, make a small donation to DKD for future children and so DKD can continue changing lives.
It’s hard to ask for help from your family and friends, we don’t reach out much but in this case we would love your support.
We will forever be committed to DKD, through continuing to assist and guide the board, general duties for a small non fit profit and foster again once we have settled.
