Jordan has a rare genetic condition called Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome, which is caused by a defect in collagen - the protein that holds our bodies together. As a result, she has problems in multiple organ systems and several other medical conditions, including gastroparesis (partial paralysis of the stomach) for which she has a permanent surgically implanted feeding tube. She receives all her nutrition through this tube, which has saved her life. There is no cure for her condition, but there are treatments for some of her symptoms. Because multiple organ systems are affected, she has a team of many specialist doctors that she sees frequently. Her feeding tube requires a lot of care and has to be replaced every three months. She is in crippling chronic pain and has trouble with fainting and severe allergies, but remains in good spirits and enjoys spending time with her husband and family. She also maintains a blog, Digesting The Facts , in order to share helpful information with other EDS patients, and advocates for patients' rights when her health allows it.

Being sick is very expensive, even with health insurance. Copays add up quickly, and Jordan and her husband have had to take on large medical debt. Currently, she is in a stage of her health insurance where her prescription copays are very high, and several of her medications are not covered at all. She also cannot afford dental insurance, which is an urgent need. There are several treatments that have been recommended to her that she can't pursue and doctors that don't take insurance that she can't see because she can't afford it. There are many hidden medical expenses like a wheelchair, braces for her joints, parking, transportation, etc, all not covered by insurance.

Unfortunately, this challenging situation recently became more urgent, as her husband was laid off a few months ago from his job as a network administrator when his company decided to outsource their IT department. He is looking hard for a job but so far has not found one. It has become difficult to make ends meet, let alone pay for her considerable medical expenses, and Jordan has had to go off some of her medication and make other tough decisions.

Jordan is embarassed to ask others for money, but circumstances have necesitated it. This is an urgent situation. Please consider donating and sharing. Please check out Jordan's blog to read more about her story.
