Jonesy 1% Type B. 5 wk. old DTLA Flower Shop Kitty
So we've been trying to adopt this kitten who's been living at one of the DTLA flower market stalls, but they didn't want to give him up. He's been covered in fleas, un-treated for a couple weeks. I waked past the shop today, and they told me he needs to be adopted right now and they can't take care of him because he gotten "a little sick."
The flower shop gave him to me today as he went from a ball of fluffy joy, to weak and limp and lifeless. I immediately rushed him to the vet and they diagnosed him severely anemic, at only 8% of the red blood cell count he should have, and dangerously low blood pressure -- and the kicker, type B blood which only 1% of cats have. We're trying different animal blood banks now to try and find type B blood, but as it's after 5pm on a Friday night...
We've called him Jonesy, like the strong cat in Alien - hoping he can pull through, being a little mutant himself!
He has thumbs too. Cats with thumbs rock!
I was ready to help him, a couple hundred bucks even...but I am not prepared to take on an estimated $1500 bill...I also realize this money could help humans, but he's brought so much joy to everyone he's around, and I'd like for him not to have to die, just because of money and a blood shortage. :(
