This campaign was started in care of Donald & Kara Bunch, for their son, Jax. Donald is a North River Firefighter and Kara is a nurse at Manatee Memorial Hospital:
Monday we got the most heart breaking news that any parent could get. Our little Jax man was diagnosed with Kaposiform Hemangioendothelioma and
Kasabach-Merritt Phenomenon.. I know, a lot of big and scary words! Basically he has a tumor that he was most likely born with that has just been growing and eating all his platelets and blood clotting factors. We were informed that the tumor is not cancerous, however it is still life threatening, and already dropped his blood count well below the point at which an adult would receive a blood transfusion. Unfortunately the treatment for his tumor is steroids and chemo therapy. He is only 8 weeks old and has been through more than most people do their whole lives, and that just breaks my heart. But he is so strong and has been such a big boy! We have the most amazing team of doctors working with Jax and the staff at All Children's has been amazing, I know we are at the best place! Thank you for all the kind words and support, it means more to us than you will ever know!
