UPDATE This last week I had been talking with Shawn who was dealing with a lot of back pain. It finally drove him to seek help midweek and he was diagnosed with a pinched nerve. Things took a surprising turn Saturday evening when Shawn began to lose feeling in his lower body. Shawn got to a local hospital who immediately transferred him to Shock Trauma where it was found Shawn had an abscess in his spine and he underwent Emergency surgery. Shawn came out of a long surgery with rods from his T5-T9. The Infectious Disease Doctor determined he had a staph infection (MSSA) in his spine. They are unsure why he got this as its extremely rare for this to happen to a healthy 40 year old. His doctors are optimistic but his recovery is a long road. His doctor has said at least a year, or longer, to be back to somewhat normal. He will be on an antibiotic iv for the next 6-8 weeks and will be transferred to a rehab facility when able. He is hopeful, and working hard, to be able to walk again! Shawn has had Kelly by his side and has four children Hannah, Julia, Jacob, and Logan. As you all know med costs, lost time at work, and all the time and travel back and forth to facilitates will be costly for this family.
