Johnson Family Fund

Dear Providence High School Families & the Local South Charlotte Community,

If you haven’t had the honor of knowing the Johnson family than you are truly missing out on a wonderful group of people.

Maybe you have read stories about the Johnson brothers: Darius and Devin.

Darius is the secret weapon to both the girls' and boys' soccer teams as well as the basketball team at Providence High School. He has been the teams' manager for years and his inspiring tale of overcoming adversity helped motivate the Girls' Soccer team to win the 2016 NC State 4A Soccer Championship. Darius is basically a celebrity at PHS.

Devin plays baseball at Providence despite being diagnosed with a heart condition that has led his family to seek medical expertise from the world renowned Mayo Clinic in Rochester, MN. But just like his brother, Devin has overcome adversity by not letting the diagnosis get in the way. He’s continued to keep a smile on his face, even when enduring awful and painful medical procedures and treatments to help better his health.

Or maybe you’ve had the wonderful pleasure to work with or get to know Kym Johnson.  This unbelievable woman is a single mother raising 4 amazing children who are between the ages of 13-19.  Kym works in the CMS School system as a Teaching Assistant.  She is a very passionate woman about many things; but to her, family comes first. Yet because Kym has never met a person or student that she didn’t like,  everyone one is considered her family.  Kym’s ability to multi-task and be present for each of her children with individual love and the willingness to support them is a true testimony of this amazing woman’s gift: her selflessness.

Last year, the Johnson’s were hit really hard times. With the support of her mother and the love of her family Kym was able to keep a smile on her face, but behind that smile were a lot of worries. She had multiple surgeries and medical events that kept her from working. And with Devin needing medical help from the Mayo Clinic, medical bills were piling up and the basic family expenses were starting to take a hit.  Kym tried to play it down, but her kids understood the stress she was under and they would try to do everything they could to help out their mom.  Recently, the Johnson’s were told that the home that they live in will be going up for sale and they will need to find other living arrangements. They only have until 12/31/2016 to find a new place to live.  This heartbreaking news couldn’t come at a worse time for the Johnson family.

So, Providence High School community, it’s time to take care of one of our own Panther Families and help this family in need.   We sincerely appreciate your support and any donation large or small makes a HUGE difference.
