Starting a new chapter.
$5,475 of $20,000 goal
I've been shooting large-format landscape photographs using 4x5 film (see my website: www.johnhansesphotography.com) for over 25 years and had built up my shop and business gradually over that time. My process only started after taking the picture, and from there is where I need to start rebuilding! After processing the film I would print and build custom frames up to 4ft by 5ft and sometimes larger. All this required a full wood shop, spray room, mounting machines, custom work tables I'd built, and on goes the list.
I will rebuild and I see this as an opportunity, or rather a forced ending to one chapter in my life, and I look forward to what's to come.
I'd like to thank so many that have helped with food, a place to stay, and just general support in the last couple weeks! Thank you!!!!
It took some prodding to get me to make this campaign but my pride's pain doesn't compare to the appreciation.
When I looked at all the contributions from so many I felt grateful. Then realizing the majority of these are purchases, I realized how lucky I am. I have work!!! And to some that have given, but did it strictly to help and may not want a print; I hope that you accept it and gift it to someone you think would enjoy it, that would be cool on an extra level.
Also, I've been loaned a new large-format camera system! And it's not just replacing my 4x5, this is a complete 8"x10" system - 4 times the resolution of the 4x5! Its a very large beast - all the gear is probably closer to 60 lbs now. And, anyone that donates to my cause by pre-purchasing an image will have the option of one of my existing images, or, they can wait and see what I produce with the 8x10.
Also, I had the print prices up near that of the pre-fire pricing because I didn't know if I'd have to pay someone else to do the printing, but, I now know that I'll get at least my printing up and running in the near future, so, I've lowered the pricing across the board.
I'm off to once again sift through ashes and check in with FEMA and friends in my old stomping grounds.
Thank you again for all the support given, offered, and spoken!
PS. I'm currently without computer access but can be messaged on FB or texted to (707) 775-5001.
