John lost everything in Houston

**Update**
9/1/17: John just told me his home will not be habitable for at least 120 days.
My name is Brent Smith. My friend John Slaughter lives (or lived) in Kingwood Texas – northeast Houston. The area was devastated. From a distance (I live in New Hampshire),I promised him I would do what I can, so I’m asking for your help.
I spoke with John on Tuesday. He said he was relatively dry but areas around his neighborhood were flooded. He was fine.
Wednesday afternoon I messaged John to ask how he was holding up. I was expecting him to say all was well – that the water was receding and he dodged a bullet. I did not expect what I heard.
His answer stunned me: “Not good,” John wrote. “Got evacuated by boat, lost everything. Trying to sort out a vehicle to drive and a place to live. Can’t get within two miles of my place.”
He also wrote: “Thank you very much for rescuing people” - that he’ll never forget the guy in the rescue boat from St Louis. “Thanks to all of you! HE had no idea what time it was or how long he'd been working...”
Like me, he’s a single dad with a daughter and two dogs. All are fine – or as fine as one can be in these circumstances.
My friend is homeless. They have nothing and can't get in to try to salvege. I’m doing what I can, but I need help.
Things got a lot worse! Please donate what you can to help John pick up the pieces.
All the money donated will be used by him to purchase whatever he and his family needs - which is pretty much everyything - cloths, appliances, furniture, etc.
As John is having trouble with his residence and banking, I will withdrawal the funds and send a check to work place of employment.
