As you all know, Joel is a very proud individual who would never want to burden anyone. Unfortunatly, he is currently battling abstract metastatic melanoma (the most lethal form of skin cancer) and is making his final attempt to reduce his tumors in size and to extend his life long enough to be able to benefit from new discoveries in the field of abstract melanoma. He has an inoperable tumor behind his left eye and he has a small mass infused within his pancreas.
He has hidden his cancer for years- because it is his character to give the shirt off his back rather than ask for help, Now the time has come and Joel really needs our help. Simply put, he is going to die in the next few months if we can’t get the money together for this cutting edge cancer treatment. He was lucky enough to be directed to a clinical trial in Arizona and is currently partaking in a combination of advanced radiation and immunotherapy treatments. Some days, he is in absolute agony and on his good days he's really optimistic and excited about overcoming the odds. Joel said the other day, “the really cool thing about getting massive radiation on your head is you get to watch movies for what feels like the first time even though you’ve already seen it 7 or 8 times before”. As you can see, Joel maintains his sense of humor and positive outlook in this terrifying situation and always mentions how grateful he is to his friends and family. With the treatment, Joel has a chance to live, to laugh, and perhaps to have a family of his own.
Joel has always put others ahead of himself. Now it's his turn. We want to show him the same kind of love and appreciation that he has selflessly given to all of us.
