Joan's Stem Cell Transplant.

$8,825 of $5,000 goal

Raised by 77 people in 13 months
Our Sister Joan has been diagnosed with a rare cancer, called Multiple Myeloma. This Cancer has no cure ,it affects the bone and bone marrow. It has progressed into her bones,  what they call Moth Holes in her bones . When we found out that Joan was sick, near and far, we all came together to support her. She has been chosen by an amazing team of Doctors , Nurses, and support workers from The Princess Margaret Hospital in Toronto , Ontario to receive a Stem Cell Transplant after her months of Chemo treatments. This is an amazing gift for our family.  If you know our family, you will know that it doesn't stop with just our blood relation. This type of Cancer has no cure ,But it can be treated with the SCT. It will come back . Anyone who has met Joan, knows what an amazing baker, crafty, and caring person she is. She has an appointment to start her treatment in Toronto on July 9th.. They anticipate that she will need to stay in Toronto for 2 to 5 weeks for this treatment and have a 24 hour caregiver with her at all times. They do not have a hospital for her to stay in, either a hotel , or Princess Margaret Cancer Lodge. She will be transported to the hospital daily for her treatments, then back to her lodgings. Her beloved husband Denis has used all of his time off from work , as she had to be in Thunder Bay Hospital for a month in February.  Any more time he takes will likely be without pay. We are hoping to take the burden off of them, worrying about paying bills, and always having one of the family with her at all times.

Joan had an appointment with her Oncologyst today since she first took a med-e-vac to Thunder Bay Hospital in early February . Her Dr. Couldn’t believe how good she looks now compared to then . She “ Dr. “ said she was a very sick girl when she saw her last . I want to let people who are fighting for their health to know if you don’t feel comfortable with your health team, you always have the right to ask for more. Chemo is working for my sister and we are so hopefully for her stem cell transplant and so are her Dr.s . To anyone out there dealing with this horrible disease , please never give up , support and hope can get you through.

We have reached our goal, thanks to all you amazing people. I will continue to keep the donation page up for one month , for those people who would still like to donate . As many of us know , Toronto hotels and lodging can cost up to $300 a night. Bless every single one of you for caring so much . Hugs from Joan, and the entire Sheppard Family
