Help for Gabe

When mental illness attacks a small child, it is not only heart breaking it’s the beginning of a never-ending nightmare for a family and even more difficult when you’re a single mom. To get help for your child and hold down a full-time job is a consistent 2 steps forward 3 steps back. Gabe’s mom gets up every day hoping that today she won’t get that call from the school to come get him because the school cannot calm him down. That call results in a loss of pay and so you can see the cycle she is in.

Gabe is a beautiful boy who is loved so much especially by his mom. He was born six years ago, 2 months premature. In his first year he battled numerous health problems and had multiple surgeries. At 2 years old the health problems subsided. It became clear early that something was still wrong, but the doctors said they couldn’t identify anything physically.

As time went on and Gabe started pre-school, he was getting kicked out one after another for violent behavior. He was kicked out of two private schools and is now attending a public school that is not equipped to care for him or handle him when he has an outburst that can last 30 minutes or more. Gabe has said in his words that when he gets upset, the dragon that lives inside of him gets out. That when he is calm the dragon is in his cage, but when he is upset, he can't keep the dragon in and the dragon is not nice to his friends/teachers at school. I can’t imagine how he must feel but what I do know is he needs help now before it’s too late.

He has a Psychiatrist and a therapist. The psychiatrist has Gabe on multiple medications that seemed to be working, after trying and failing several others, but that was short lived. The teachers fear Gabe and there are other children in the classroom that are being exposed to this, it’s very sad for all. His therapist thinks Gabe should be in a special school for emotionally troubled children, so his mom is trying her hardest to get him the transfer. There is also a sweet side to Gabe as he doesn’t like to see a small child being picked on and will try to help. It is clear his daily struggle is not going away.

His mom is reading a book written by Daniel G. Amen. Dr Amen has clinic’s located in NY, GA, CA, IL & DC. And believes if she could get him to one of these clinics for some testing, she might get some answers and have a better understanding of his illness a chance for Gabe and his mom to have better life. The cost of the testing alone is $3,950.00 she would need take a bus from NH to NY and stay two nights as the testing is a three-day event.

This is a mom that understands her son needs professional help but without the necessary means it may never happen and Gabe will be just another statistic. We’ve heard how the “Go Fund Me” program helps so many people every day, we’re hoping and praying for Gabe to get the help he needs.

I know his mom would be forever grateful
