Lynne Marie Runkle Smith Memorial

My dear friend and Koumbara, Lynne Marie Runkle Smith, passed away suddenly from a kidney stone that went septic.  Her husband, Rustin (Rusty) Smith was by her side at the hospital as doctors and nurses at Ventura County Regional Medical Center did everything they could to stabalize her.  Unfortunately all the procedures and dialysis were not successful and she passed away at 1am on Thursday February 4, 2016.   No pre-arrangements for were made, and there was no money for a proper burial.   Rusty thought his only option financially was cremation, which is not supported by Orthodox Christianity.  I know that Lynne, a very devout Orthodox Christian, would want a proper service and burial, so friends, family and everyone concerned are raising money for the Mortuary,  Cemetery and medical expenses.  Rusty and I have spent precious time researching, visiting, and calling all mortuaries and cemeteries.  Together with many others from both church families, (St. Herman's Russian Orthodox Church in Oxnard, CA and St. Demetrios Greek Orthodox Church in Camarillo,  CA) ,  we have found financial support and the lowest possible fees.  Lynne always stepped up to help any person or animal in need, and her church families are doing the same for her and Rusty.  We will to bury her on 2/18 in Carpinteria public cemetery.  Please help us lay our friend and fellow Christian to rest as God wishes.  Your gift in any amount will be most appreciated by her husband Rustin Smith, whose only income is a small Social Security pension.

If you have any questions, or think you could support in some way - please contact Lynn Mikelatos at greeklynn@gmail.com.  We need your support.  Thank you also for sharing and reposting on Facebook.

We are so very saddened by Lynne's passing, a very dear friend. We enjoyed a wonderful friendship with her at St. Hermans Orthodox Church in California for many years. She was a devout Orthodox and was the sweetest person and had a big heart for everyone. Will miss her so much. May her memory be eternal. Love to you in heaven Lynn. Don and Darlene

I was so blessed to know Lynne here at the Salvation Army because of the Bell-ringing work each year. She and her husband, Rusty, were so faithful to help, rain or shine, and made contact with many people as they shared with people that came by the bell-ringing stand. Lynne definitely spread joy to those around her.
