I'm making a big lifestyle change to become a teacher, after having been a commercial photographer for the past twenty years. I have been attending graduate school while working my day job. I have finished my coursework and will be student teaching in the fall of 2015. Unfortunately I will need to leave my "day job" before I can student teach. My company is making that easy for me by sending my job to Canada. Student teaching does not pay a salary, plus I will need to pay tuition!
My wife and kids are working as hard as they can, but I am the main breadwinner and the one who pays the mortgage. I will need to borrow thousands of dollars without your help. Please help me reach my goal of becoming a licensed elementary school teacher without incurring a monster debt burden.
You will not only help me and my family, but you will be helping hundreds of kids too! Who knows how many students I will be able to teach in my lifetime? I work well with special needs students, kids from diverse backgrounds, and kids who are struggling. I have a high GPA (all A's!) and I'm excited about my new career. Being a good effective teacher will be the ultimate reward but I will need to make it through the experience first. Please help.

I have finally finished the last requirement for my Master of Science in Education, an oral capstone presentation. I tied my teacher education courses into my classroom experiences while student teaching. It was a fun experience, Skyping with a faculty panel back in River Falls. It happened just in time, as I have an interview first thing tomorrow morning (0730!) for a middle school teaching position. It may be a long summer still, but things are moving forward!
Thank you again to all of my past supporters, your generosity is appreciated.

To all of my supporters, I am now officially a licensed teacher! I did not expect to receive this news on the weekend so I was shocked to get an email from the state of Wisconsin with my approval. I was able to print off my certificate and I now have my license! Next step is to apply for the Irish Teaching Council. I am still waiting for some paperwork from my university to include so my course and license can be evaluated against Irish standards. With any luck (perhaps the luck o' the Irish!) the process will go quickly.

Just a quick update, I have been a little distracted lately while preparing my edTPA to submit (if you know what I am talking about sorry, and good luck!) This year I am thankful that the deadline was before Thanksgiving so now I can relax. And I just discovered the feature in Microsoft Word that lists details about open documents, including the total editing time. So just for fun, I was able to calculate exactly how much time I spent on writing all of my commentaries this fall. The sum was about 13,000 minutes which calculates to about 216 hours. Granted, some of that time could have been counted while the documents were left open overnight or while I stared blankly at the screen, but still, not too shabby!
Thank you again to all of my supporters and have a wonderful Thanksgiving!

First month of student teaching is over. I had my first supervisory evaluation this week, whew.... Not too shabby for an old dog learning new tricks!

A big thank you to my latest supporters!

Your Ireland will now enrich those you "touch" through your teaching plans, art in various forms, stories and as testament of what Faith in God looks like! When you arrive in the states email me where you are as my new job will allow for free time on the weekends and I cannot wait to hear of your adventures in person. I am gifting my adult trike savings to your new adventures. I will start over and you can use this for utilities, new teaching duds, new art supplies...whatever you need. Love to all.
