Help JJ Beat Cancer
Donation protected
JJ is the primary therapy dog at our inpatient Hospice House in Albany, Oregon. She helps support patients, families, visitors and staff. She also is a Crisis Response dog, helping to comfort those who have been affected by crises and disasters. I have been honored to be her partner through our six years and am so very grateful to witness the power of her healing interactions with people. She also has been the conduit for raising awareness, acceptance and knowledge of end of life issues online, reaching out to people around the world.
She was just diagnosed with lymphoma after showing symptoms from a very high blood calcium level. She will need to start treatment ASAP to get the optimal response. We are waiting on which type of lymphoma it is, but chemotherapy is needed. If it turns out to be a low grade lymphoma, remission is expected to be 2-5+ years. If it is a B-cell lymphoma, remission of 12-18+ months is expected. Dogs handle chemo much better than people often do, with fewer side effects. This treatment will help alleviate her high calcium levels and symptoms. Since this has been caught early, we are hopeful to have JJ around for a lot longer, providing her love and comfort to so many more as time goes on. Chemo treatment is expected to cost $6000-7000, not including ongoing tests to monitor her response.
