About Me
My name is Jillian and I am 29 years old. My 30th Birthday is looming next year and I am just not sure how I feel about it. I don’t think I am ready to be 30, in my head I’m still 17 – never growing up like Peter Pan. However, I will turn 30 and I want to do something amazing.
My Volunteer Placement
I have decided that I am going to go to Harghita in Romania for a month to volunteer with children and adults who have additional support needs.
“Due to the social stigma and lack of governmental support, there are many families in Romania who are unable to properly care for family members (young children and adults) with mental and physical disabilities such as Autism, Cerebral Palsy and Down syndrome.”

My Roles Volunteering
I will spend my time volunteering at a special needs centre for children and adults and I am so excited. My role will be assisting the staff and helping to plan games and educational activities and caring for the people in the centre.
How Your Donations Will Help
There are only basic resources available, so I plan to fund-raise to bring some specialised supplies and sensory toys out with me. The rest of the money will be spent on books, art supplies and anything else that will be beneficial to the program when I am in Romania. I plan to buy these supplies in Romania so that it will boost the local economy of the people that I will be volunteering with.
So, this all being said it is time to start fundraising! Please make a donation that will put a smile not only on my face but on some amazing people’s faces in Romania. I want to be able to provide the program where I will be volunteering with as many educational and fun supplies as I can. Your donations can change lives and I will be so grateful. Any donation however big or small will be amazing!

Why This Means So Much To Me
Those of you who know me well, will know I have been volunteering, working and learning from people who have additional support needs in some way since I was 16. In 2008 I travelled to New York to work at a summer camp called Camp Huntington, and my further 6 summers there changed my life. It made me a better person and realise what is important in life.
As much as I adore my job now (believe me, it is my whole life) I have felt a little bit lost recently. I love the day to day, being with so many gorgeous brides however as my business grows I have spent more time doing admin and being a bit stressed managing so many emails and social media and I have lost sight of who I am. I did a little bit of soul searching and since deciding to go to Romania to volunteer I have reminded myself why I love to do things like this. It is all about giving something back.
I am so lucky in my life, I have a wonderful house with my wonderful boyfriend and we have the cutest cat and dog in the world. We are surrounded by amazing friends and family and are both fortunate to have wonderful, supportive jobs. My boyfriend is a teacher and I run my own bridal hair and makeup business. We have so much and I am so thankful for it that I think it is time for me to give something back.

I am a bridal hair and makeup artist and I run my own business. I am so lucky to have so many wonderful brides book with me for their big day, so lovelies please do not worry, if you have secured your wedding date with myself I will still be there. I am taking a 4 week holiday from work to go and volunteer.
