Love Offering for Mike and Whitney
I am requesting a love offering for my sweet friends Mike and Whitney who had the unthinkable happen to them last night in a home invasion and shooting. They had just gotten home from vacation when several young males knocked on their door and asked for help with their car. They asked to come inside. Mike fought to keep them outside the door, but they shot him in both legs, shattering his femur, as they forced their way inside. Whitney was inside about to put their infant daughter down for bed when she heard the shots and ran out the back door carrying their 6 month old baby girl. The gunman fired at her twice and missed. She was able to run to a neighbor's house to call 911. Meanwhile, several more guys came out of the woods and ransacked their house, stepping all over Mike to take their belongings. Mike and Whitney's two year old son was upstairs in his room and was thankfully unharmed. They were all shielded by God's protective hand as this could have turned out much worse. Mike had emergency surgery today to repair his broken leg. Because Mike was just about to start a new job, his medical insurance isn't going to cover all of his medical expenses. The physical wounds will eventually heal, but the emotional wounds of this traumatic situation will take a while to heal. However, even in the midst of such a terrifying incident, Mike and Whitney and their families are thankful to God for protecting them and continue to give glory to Him. I hope to raise some money just as a love offering for them, so they know they are loved and prayed for during this difficult time.
Uodate: Mike is out of surgery and thedoctors say he should have a full recovery. I am blown away by the generous donations by friends and strangers! God is good!
By way of update I'll share a few things with you. Our son-in-law Mike made some painful but significant progress yesterday taking his first few steps using a walker. One of his legs is doing very well because the bullet passed thru that thigh without hitting bone or artery. He has some serious nerve damage in the other leg which will require many months of physical therapy. Mike should be released from Grady this week and he and his family will be living with Jessica and me while we sort things out.
Don Henley has a song called "In A New York Minute" that talks about how life can change in an instant. We all have plans, as we should. But my lesson in this tragedy is to be more fully present in each moment....because we have no guarantee of tomorrow. Let's help each other make the most of today.
Mike's words are still echoing in my mind, as he was bleeding profusely and in excruciating pain on our floor the amazing police and EMT were working on him while he was proclaiming Luke 23:34 "Forgive them Father, they know not what they have done." His immediate grace and forgiveness for others in the midst of life and death is a constant reminder for me as I feel anger trying to creep in.
We are overwhelmed with the compassion everyone has shown us during this time. We can't stop crying while reading all of your encouraging posts and prayers. Thank you for your continued prayers as this will be a long recovery not only physically but mentally as well. We love you all.
Mike....so incredibly sorry that this has happened to you. I shared your story with my classes at LCC today and there are many prayers being offered on your behalf. Word is spreading and I will share this page with every one that I can to see if we can drum up some support for you and your family from Lima. We will pray for you at our all-school mass tomorrow ... once a T-Bird, always a T-Bird. Lots of love from Lima......Mrs. Schenk
I went to high school with Mike and he is one of the sweetest guys I know. I had the pleasure of meeting his lovely wife last year while they were home visiting, and she is just as sweet. It sickens me that something so horrible could happen to such wonderful people. I pray not only for a speedy physical and psychological recovery for their family, but also for swift justice for the criminals that did this.
Hello to Mike, Whitey, family and friends. My name is Ray. I am the husband of Diana, who was diagnosed with alzhiemers and dementia in 2009. You can view her story on her facebook page. We are a couple in our senior years and the Lord have given us a good life over the years. My reason for posting this message is that we want to donate the small amount 210.00 that was donated to Diana to Mike and Whitney. Why, when the suggestion to do this was made to us, I had never considered this, nor did I even know too much about it. I originally started out with a campaign goal of 100K, which would only provide the testing of a new MRI, MRA and the NUTRAVAL TEST which is required every 90 days and the cost for these test is over 10K alone each time and is required prior to beginning the alternative treatment plan that very few people know of, but I was blessed to find out about it during my research in 2013. At that time we had the money to cover the treatment for the whole year of 2014 and then the money was gone and the treatment had to end in November of 2014. This is how I know it is a proven holistic treatment plan and is why I shared it on Diana's facebook page for other caregivers of alzhiemers and dementia patients could read it. Traditional mainstream doctors will not tell or mention these type treatment plans to their patients because it takes away from their bottom line and the loss of business. I have sent a request to find out how I to take the money that was donated to Diana and transfer it to Mike and Whitney. If anyone who reads this knows the process to make the transfer please tell me by posting in on Diana's facebook page. In the mean time, I will continue to pray that Mike and Whitney will have a speedy recovery and that God will continue to Blessed them. I am so very sorry that you guys had to come home and be faced with such a senseless tragedy that seems to be a very common thing these days. I know the 210.00 is not very much, but if it will help in your recovery and medical cost, I pray that it will. It has been almost two weeks now and since that time this is all that has been donated to my wife of three decades. I have become a bit discourage and feel more helpless and hopeless now because of the time that has passed and what has been donated to assist in the treatment that would restore the damage done to her at the nursing home and the loss of holistic treatment. So, if anyone can tell me how to get this money to them, please post on Diana's page. May God Bless you all, and to Mike and Whitney, my prayers are with you. Remain strong and very courageous as your healing continue, because "EVERY LIFE DOES MATTER". Ray and Diana
