Rayne's Intern Abroad in KENYA

In approximately six weeks, I will be traveling to the one and only country of KENYA, located in East Africa. I have been BLESSED immensely and have been granted this once in a lifetime opportunity through Florida State’s international volunteer service, Global Scholars Program. This summer, I have chosen to intern at the NGO Kuria Development Community for the Marginalized (KDCM) located in the western region of Kenya, in a city known as Kehancha. While interning at KDCM, I will be shadowing and observing nurses and doctors in the maternal care unit. After shadowing them, I will then be able to teach tips to the traditional birth attendants in the Kuria community. These tips are very significant and will be helpful to the women in the community since the infant mortality rate is high. The main reason why I have selected to travel to Kenya to intern with this specific NGO, is because it is the only one that will allow me to gain invaluable knowledge in an area that closely fits my career aspirations as a traveling nurse midwife, as well as because my values closely aligns with KDCM’s mission to create sustainable change for youth, women, and children.

I have created this GoFundMe to assist in paying for my boarding and food expenses while in Kenya for over two months.
