Jewish Plant Magic Scholarships

*** JEWISH PLANT MAGIC scholarship fund ***

Welcome! We are fundraising scholarship money for lower income folks to attend the Jewish Plant Magic workshop in June 2019, prioritizing jews of color/sephardic/mizrahi jews.

What is the Jewish Plant Magic workshop? It's a weekend-long retreat where participants will be immersed in:
    • learning about diverse Jewish plant traditions
    • engaging with plant-based Jewish ritual and ancestral diasporic magic
    • making medicines together
    • exploring our ancestral lineages of herbal wisdom
    • supporting people in connecting to our earth-based traditions and heritages that have been obscured/erased by patriarchy, capitalism, assimilation, racism, and antisemitism.

We believe this is powerful liberatory work. Rooting into our traditions allows us to do our work in the world from a connected and empowered place.  It's  a force against culturally-appropriative plant practices and christian hegemony.

By donating money, you will be supporting people of marginalized experience to access this important and deep learning in community!

My Jewish upbringing was in the context of social justice organizing while my spiritual life, though partially nourished through working with others for a more loving and just world, was mostly fed privately in nature or on the dance floor. DETAILS:

**  Your $ will go to supporting scholarships for folks who are low-income and would not be able to attend without financial support.

**  We are prioritizing Jews of Color/Sephardic/Mizrahi Jews for this scholarship fund.

**  About 50% of people are requesting some kind of financial assistance and we'd like to be able to meet everyone's needs.

**  $500 covers room and board + tuition. 

** Our fundraising goal is $2,500 , which would cover either five full scholarships or 10 partial scholarships.

(a little background: Dori Midnight  and Ellie Lobovits  started teaching Jewish Plant Magic last year. In 2018 we led our first weekend workshop in western Massachusetts, with 18 participants. We had such a high demand, with a waitlist of over 50 people, that for 2019 we decided to expand to 30 participants and added an additional day to the workshop, increasing access, but also increasing cost.)
