Jerry Yeargin 4 County Commissioner

I am running for District 5 County Commissioner to work for safer schools, better roads, and more affordable housing. I will propose the progressive new laws Taos County needs  to increase revenues from corporate commercial operations like big-box stores and multistory hotels. I will seek home rule status for the town and county so we can raise the minimum wage. A living wage will raise the quality of life for everyone in the Taos area, both working people and the wealthy.
Penasco has not been getting a fair share of county resources. If I am elected, I will fight for more county tax revenues to been spent on roads, schools, and affordable housing in the Penasco Valley and surrounding communities. I will stand up to the Forest Service to make sure that they designate more firewood cutting areas in Penasco and Taos Canyon.
  I will continue to raise awareness about the impairment of the Rio Fernando, and pressure the Forest Service to use sustainable grazing management practices to return this river to healthy flows of clean, cold water to benefit the acequias in the Town of Taos. I will also work to preserve the agricultural traditions and acequias in the Penasco Valley. It is vital to protect the property tax exemption for farms and ranches in District 5 and I will do everything to make sure that these property owners do not have their taxes increased.
It is time for the large corporations doing business in Taos County to start paying their fair share of taxes. I am working with a tax attorney to find ways to raise revenues from corporations and the wealthy while avoiding tax increases on working people and the middle class.
