Jennifer's breast cancer surgery

Donation protected
This may come as news for some of you, but our sunshine, Jennifer Sanchez was recently diagnosed with invasive ductal carcinoma breast cancer. Thankfully, it’s grade 2, which is not the most rapid growing. Our beloved, mother, daughter, friend, and teacher will need a double mastectomy and reconstructive surgery, along with several other surgeries, beginning in August.

If you know Jennifer, you know she’s one of the kindest, most generous people you’ll ever meet. She’s a ray of sunlight who brightens your day. While she would never ask for help with her treatment, I can’t help but ask for her.

Jennifer is the mother of Sunni Rae and Mateo and gives her all to her kids. Mateo is a talented athlete, who is involved in football, and baseball. Of course, Jennifer is his #1 cheerleader and fan. You can count on her being at his games every weekend! Sunni Rae is Jennifer’s oldest who was recently accepted to go to the University of Hawaii. She is leaving in August. Believe it or not, even with news of her own diagnosis, Jennifer wouldn’t dare miss seeing her daughter off to college. That’s how devoted a mother she is to both her kids. And likewise, her kids are devoted to her and are constantly found at her work, helping Jennifer teach her other kids, her students.

Over the last 23 years, Ms. Sanchez has touched the lives of many families in the Wilson School District. As a second-grade teacher, she dedicates her life to 7 and 8-year-olds, teaching them sight words and skip-counting. Her students love her, calling her “mom”, and giving hugs every chance they get. Likewise, their parents consider her family and invite her to birthdays, baptisms, soccer games, and graduations. She “parades around campus carrying their newborns and toddlers after school and during assemblies.” Every student who she ever meets is her baby and her “love”.

If that wasn’t enough, Jennifer is the best coworker anyone could ever ask for. To Jennifer, her work family is her actual family. She will take care of you. She will feed you. She will help you with lesson plans. She will plan your birthday party. She will bring you surprise boxes of sunshine and love while you are in the hospital. If you are lucky enough to befriend Jennifer, just know, that friendship will last a lifetime!

With that said, if there were ever a time when someone deserves help and support, this is it. While we still don't know if Jennifer will need chemotherapy, we do know that she will miss at least 6-8 weeks of work, assuming no chemo is needed. Unfortunately, Jenn has no sick days and will not receive short-term disability during that time. Because of that, she will be needing our help more than most.

In an effort to raise money and help Jennifer pay for her treatment, we’ve started this site. Our goal is to raise $10,000 . In addition, we will also be selling #TeamSanchez t-shirts as a fundraiser. If you're interested in buying a shirt, contact [email redacted] to order one.
