Jen Beats Cancer

Donation protected
We are reaching out to ask for help as Jennifer Carson fights to beat cancer.

Jen is 35 years old, loves children and animals, and they love her. She is kind, funny, smart, and caring.

This past November Jen was diagnosed with breast cancer and had a lumpectomy and lymph node dissection surgery. After a month of recuperation, more cancer was found. Her condition now is Stage 3 Grade C metastatic cancer.

She then battled through 16 weeks of grueling chemotherapy. Jen courageously continued working, only missing work for late day chemo treatments and a week in the hospital with neutropenic fever and pneumonia. At one point, she went to work with blisters on the bottom of her feet – a rare chemo side effect.

After three short weeks of recuperation from chemo, Jen went on to face six weeks of proton therapy radiation, five days a week, directed at three different cancer sites. Again, Jen continued working as much as possible.

In addition to this grueling treatment regimen, Jen travels an hour and a half each way for treatment due to the complexity of her multiple diagnosis. Her friends and family pitched in to make this possible.

Finally, Jen realized she couldn’t work the last three weeks of her treatment as the exhaustion kicked in. She reluctantly went on medical leave. She finished radiation treatment on July 1, 2019.

Jen urgently needs help with the unavoidable expenses and loss of income that arise during and after treatment. Her care will be long term, especially as she plans to be a long term survivor! We want to minimize her financial concerns so she can concentrate on winning her battle with cancer.

Added to all of this, she was born with Neurofibromatosis, a genetic disorder that can affect nerve tissue anywhere in the body. In Jen’s case, it attacked her arterial system, caused cardiac problems, the loss of her right kidney, and rendered her deaf in her right ear.

She has spent months in intensive care units, has traveled many thousands of miles to endure hundreds of diagnostic tests, treatments, surgeries, and consults at numerous facilities with a wide variety of specialists. Her courage and attitude towards what she has faced makes us so proud. Her strength inspires us. Now, she faces yet another challenge. And now, we hope for another miracle.

Despite all of these challenges, Jen has always been active in her community, participating in Habitat for Humanity projects, community theater, and other activities. She earned a Bachelor’s degree through Neuman University and served a year in the Americorps program. She remains full of humor, grace, and positive energy.

We want to thank our community, doctors, nurses, friends, and family for all their support and love.

All donations would be gratefully appreciated.  Please help if you can.  Thank you.
