PLEASE HELP A BROTHER OUT

Hi, we are Jim and Dana Daugherty and this is about our nephew Jeff C Palmer II.

Jeff is 27 years old. He and Rachel are the proud parents of 5 month old Jeff C Palmer III, aka Sweet Baby Trip. On Saturday, March 11, 2017, Jeff went to work, after not having felt good for a week or so. Soon after his arrival, Jeff was found collapsed in the back room. After regaining consciousness, Jeff drove himself to Care Now to seek medical help. While there, Jeff again collapsed, only this time his heart stopped beating. 911 was dispatched and our nephew was immediately transported via ambulance to Harris Hospital in down town FT Worth. During that approximately 20-minute ambulance ride, the paramedics had to “paddle” Jeff more than 30 times with an AED! Jeff’s immediate diagnosis was 104-degree temperature and a positive flu test. They quickly isolated him in a corner room in CICU. The family was told that the flu virus had begun attacking Jeff’s heart and that there was irreversible damage done to the heart muscle. Those next few days were a bit of a blur, as within 72 hours, Jeff’s heart again stopped beating 4 more times!

On March 14, 2017, the Cardiologist and Electro Physiologist implanted a combination defibrillator/ pacemaker in his chest of 27-year-old Jeff Palmer II! Moreover, in an instant, Jeff and his family’s lives are forever changed..

Jeff is resting at home with his family, and one-step at a time they are learning what their new normal will be. Until now, Jeff has been the sole income earner for his sweet young family. The official diagnosis moved from a bad case of the flu to a very rare combination of three heart diseases, all of which were onset by the flu virus. One of those diseases are called Brugada Syndrome, where when his heart rate lowers past 40’ish, his ventricles stop working, the blood comes in to the heart but the ventricles do not pump the blood out. When this happens, oxygen does not reach his brain, causing lightheadedness, fainting, followed by cardiac arrest. Genetic testing will be performed to identify this gene, in hopes that it has not been passed on to little Trip. Jeff is learning that his new outlook on life includes lots of rest, numerous doctor appointments, etc. He suddenly has many new restrictions that he and his family are going to need help dealing with. He cannot drive or work for a minimum of 6 months, cannot tolerate any type of fever, as it can likely be fatal. The family does not currently have health insurance. This is going to be a difficult road for Jeff and his family emotionally, physically and financially. The current treatment plan has us hopeful, but will also leave them with increasingly daunting expenses.

We, as a family, ask that you prayerfully consider giving the family any amount you feel led to give and to show this young family that GOD IS LOVE and that He spared Jeff’s life for a reason. Jeremiah 29:11. Above all else, we ask that you would please keep our family in your continued thoughts and prayers.

Blessings!
