JC needs our help now!

$18,250 of $20,000 goal

Raised by 211 people in 10 months
JC went to his appointment with The Department of Immigration and Naturalization Monday morning (August 7th) and is being detained at Krome Detention Center in Miami.

The attorney currently working on his case suggested reatining an Immigration Attorney in Miami.  I found a great attorney through referral from a friend.  I feel she is the best immigration attorney in South Florida and that JC will finally in good hands and this would be the most viable option for us resolve this situation.  The projected legal fees are $20,000 of which $5,000 is needed before the lawyer can engage services.  We all know how special JC is and everyone loves him.  I can tell you that my heart is breaking with every moment he is not here with me.  Our family, friends and pets miss him terribly and need him returned to us and not deported.  We need to retain this lawyer as soon as possible.  Each day that passes without him having representation reduces the chances of a favorable outcome.  I will be forever grateful for every penny that anyone donates to help us.

JC and his amazingly positive personality asked me to thank everyone for their cards and letters... and of course your donations. The cards and letters everyone sent are his most precious and treasured belongings today. The joy you have brought him is priceless and he will remember this for the rest of his life. Regardless of the outcome of this unfortunate situation, many gifts have come from it and most of them came from all of you who care so much. We both thank you.

Hello again!
Thank you to everyone for their generous donations this weekend. It always humbles me and warms my heart every time I see another donation made to this campaign. Although this experience has been full of atrocious situations, I have to acknowledge that many blessings have come from it as well. Someday I will write about all of them but, today I will just say that we were not aware of how much or how many people love and care for us. We are both grateful for the awareness we now have of these blessings.

SOOOOOO…
JC’s birthday is next Sunday, May 13th. I would like to ask everyone to please send him birthday greetings. I know he will LOVE hearing from everyone to help celebrate his special day in a “special way”. I would like to mention that in addition to receiving cards, JC absolutely loves and appreciates receiving letters from everyone. It’s always nice for him to hear about how much people care about him and miss him but, when people write and tell him about what’s going on in their lives, it sort of takes his mind away from his situation and connects him to the outside world. I have found it so interesting to listen to the excitement in his voice when he describes letters he has received from people and the things they share with him about their every day affairs. It is absolutely therapeutic for him to receive this type of correspondence so, please continue to include him in your lives. In case you need his address again, it is:

Juan Mejia
MNI #17017927
Monroe County Detention Center
5501 College Road
Key West FL 33040

Remember… all correspondence must be addressed exactly as it appears above and MUST have a complete return address including your full name. Cards must be plain without attachments, glue, glitter, strings etc. Thank you so very much!

I can not end without asking again to please share our campaign as often and in as many places as possible. Your continued support in any way is needed and deeply appreciated.

With sincere gratitude,
Vinny

Hello friends. Before I begin this update, I must thank everyone for the cards and letters sent to JC since my last posting. We all know how holidays can bring boundless joy to many people, and how they can also cause a descent into deep depression with alternate circumstances. I was sure the latter was inevitable in JC’s situation until your mail started to arrive. Your correspondence completely changed his perspective on his situation. He was suddenly focused on how blessed he is to have so many people love him and care about him. He was a “star” at Monroe County Detention Center receiving more mail than anyone before! Thank you to all!

During the past four months, not too much has happened. We went to court several times being granted continuances and re-requested and being denied for parole/bond while awaiting a response from Immigration to the applications and petitions we filed in October. We finally received a response in mid April titled NOTICE OF INTENT TO TERMINATE CONDITIONAL RESIDENT STATUS. We have 30 days to file a rebuttal to this notice. That deadline for filing is May 13th, which happens to be JC’s birthday {hint}. Our next hearing is scheduled for June 5th. Our attorney has informed me that this rebuttal will require a great deal of research which is not included in the flat fee billing and will be invoiced before our next hearing.
Most everyone reading this has already donated at least once. JC and I are more than appreciative for everyones kindness, generosity and support throughout this ordeal. You have touched our hearts and our lives in such a special way and we will be forever grateful. It is embarrassing and very distressful that we are once again asking but we are in desperate need of more donations. Even the smallest amounts are a tremendous help. In addition, please share this with friends and family who might also be interested in donating as well as sharing our campaign on you Facebook, Twitter or Instagram page. It is extremely helpful and greatly appreciated.

With heartfelt thanks,
Vinny

Hello everyone. It's been a long, long time since I've posted an update. Mostly because there hasn't been anything significant to post. We are waiting for Immigration to process the most recent papers filed in November. Expedited processing for detained persons is approximately 2-3 months. We should have their decision sometime in mid January to mid February. In the mean time, I continue to pray for miracles. With the holidays upon us, my emotions become magnified and I feel so powerless over this situation. My ability to do anything to make JC's time in detainment more pleasant is limited to 15 minute phone calls, occasional video calls and... cards and letters. SO..... on my way to work tonight, I was recalling the scene from the movie "Miracle on 34th Street" when the doors of the courtroom open and a parade of men carrying huge sacks of mail dump out a mountain of letters addressed to Santa Clause which inevitably leads to the court recognizing the authenticity of Kris Kringle as Santa Clause.
With that being said, I am requesting for everyone to send JC as many Christmas cards, New Years cards and letters as you can, as soon as you can. Whether or not this leads to his release home before Christmas, I have no doubt he will feel all the love we have for him, help make his holiday in detainment as special as it could be, and know that soon, everything will be okay.
The envelopes must be addressed very specifically and must contain the senders full name and return address. Please address the envelope as follows:

Juan Mejia
MNI #17017927
Monroe County Detention Center
5501 College Road
Key West FL 33040

No cash, money orders, personal checks or unauthorized packages will be accepted.

I know this is short notice and it's such a busy time but, I just thought of this tonight. Please put every effort you can to help make this potentially devastating week for JC possibly the best time since this nightmare began.
Once again, I would like to thank EVERYONE for their continued love and support throughout this ordeal and wish everyone a happy and healthy holiday season.
With love,
Vinny and JC
