A study by the National Center for Education Statistics found that 94% of classroom teachers spend their own money stocking their classrooms with school supplies. The average expense teachers are covering from their own paychecks is $479. Additionally, the Arizona Capitol Times reported that the average teacher salary in Arizona is $11,300 below the national average.
The Yuma Jaycees know education is important so we’re asking the community to help us support teachers with stocking their classrooms this July. The Yuma Jaycees are panhandling for teachers on July 13th from 11:00 am until 2:00 pm at the intersection of 16th Street and South Castledome Avenue and are also accepting donations via GoFundMe.
