Jasmine's Liver Shunt Surgery

This sweet little girl is a Purebred Toy Chihuahua. Jasmine was born June 18, 2017 and is an emotional support dog for my 19-year-old 2nd cousin, which she hasn’t been able to have Jasmine with her to help her since Jasmine has been sick. Jasmine is normally full of life and vigor (piss and vinegar ) and a bold personality. She wants to be held, cuddled, and loved and played with and yes, spoiled... just what my cousin needed in a service animal.
In October Jasmine became very sick and lethargic, she was on the steps of crossing over the rainbow bridge. She was rushed to Buckingham Equine, Inc., in Raymond, MN, where Vet Alex did everything that she could do there for her, however, Jasmine needed more intricate care. My cousin rushed her to my house (88 miles away) and we then rushed her to my local emergency vet, but again, they couldn’t do anything for poor Jasmine. We had to rush her to Blue Pearl Animal Hospital and Emergency Services in Blaine (another 54 miles away) all in the same night.
Unfortunately, toy breeds are prone to liver shunts. They treated her with meds and diet that consists of homemade food and treats, and stated that the meds and new diet would only be a band aid; ultimately surgery would need to be done to fix the shunt. Of course, only time can tell how long the band aid would last.
With the meds and the new food that my cousin makes for her, Jasmine was doing well, back to her old self (or young self ). She is a fighter!
Time is running out! On Sunday, the 25th of February, Jasmine’s Grand mommy noticed that was not really herself, she wasn’t eating, wasn’t playing with any of her animal friends; she didn’t even mind that Sazzy was on her favorite pink blankie yet again! On Thursday, March 1st Jasmine was rushed to my house and we then rushed her back to Blue Pearl. The band aid was to the point that it isn't working well anymore. Jasmine needs the Liver Shunt surgery by the end of March in order to survive and thrive again.
Blue Peal tweaked her meds and diet again, they put her on a low protein diet and said to rub some Karo syrup on her gums as her glucose was dangerously low at 44.
Jasmine is doing a little better with the change up, she is back to running and jumping, playing with her human friends and her animal friends; however, she is still not out of the woods yet. There are days that she is still not eating or playing with her friends. She so desperately needs the surgery in order to play with her animal friends - Rex, Misty, Houdini, Sazzy, Toby & Mia, to play with the chickens on the farm again this summer and the barn cats, and to be the emotional support animal that my 2nd cousin needs so desperately, Jasmine has been missed by my cousin so dearly.
Please, if you can, donate to Jasmin's surgery; she is just an 8 1/2-month-old puppy and has the potential to live to 16, that is a lifetime of bringing a smile to my cousin's face, joy to my cousin's life, friendship, and companionship, not only to my cousin's family, but to mine as well. She is super sweet! Jasmine is loved by everyone she meets.
Everywhere that my 2nd cousin goes she hears "where's Jasmine?"

PS. The following is the list of Symptoms that can be caused by a liver shunt in dogs.
Dogs with liver shunts generally have some combination of the following symptoms:
Poor growth (congenital shunts)
Poor appetite and/or eating unusual things
Weight loss
Increased thirst and urination
Difficulty urinating or blood in the urine due to the formation of bladder stones
Vomiting, which may contain blood
Diarrhea, which may contain blood
Behavioral changes like mental dullness, staring vacantly, poor vision, unsteadiness, circling, and head pressing.
