As you know, my son Jarrius Robertson has been battling a liver disease since birth. He received his first liver transplant when he was only two years old. That liver did not function at its best, causing Jarrius to be back on the liver transplant list in need of a second liver very early in his young adult life. JJ received his second transplant on April 30, 2017. Now at the age of only fifteen years old, Jarrius suffers from all sorts of health issues around his second transplant. He is in and out of the hospital on a weekly, sometimes daily, basis. But even with all of that, everyone from family, friends, hospital staff, to other patients and organizations love him! Saints Players and fans can attest to Jarrius’ tenacity to live and keep fighting to promote organ donation.

JJ shows up at school and Saints games and interviews for news stories with more energy than anyone who is well, but that’s not enough for him. He’s just received a new liver and is still constantly pushing to save other kids lives like his. Through our foundation - It Takes Lives To Save Lives - we help educate others on the importance of becoming an organ donor and also help families who are going through hard times while they wait for a transplant. Check out our website: http://www.ittakeslivestosavelives.com/

I understand we can't provide a liver for someone unless it becomes available, but what you can do is HELP me in any and every way possible to spread the word about others becoming organ donors. I have a plan, but I cannot do it alone and without your help! I wish to bring this awareness to as many people as possible. Not just for Jarrius, but for every single sick person that can only live by receiving some form of transplant - whether that be a liver, kidney or heart.

I know if I can help someone else, then I stand a greater chance of my son continuing to get help and others receiving their gift of life like my son did. Your donations would give other kids the opportunity to live beyond their youth because our organization will keep spreading the word to help people. I've learned sooooo much from seeing my son suffer. I learned that I never want to see any other parent or person suffer like this.

Just think, one organ donor can saves 9 lives by just saying YES!! Thank you for your continued support as we keep JJ as healthy as possible and help as many others as we can.

Original story - Oct 18, 2016

Thank you to everybody who has reached out and asked how they could help support my son Jarrius “JJ” Robertson.

Jarrius has battled a chronic liver disease called biliary atresia his entire life. On Sunday, April 30, Jarrius received a new liver and underwent a successful surgery! He is recovering well from the liver transplantation but still has a long way to go!

He is receiving regular treatment at Ochsner Hospital for Children so any support you can provide for the family to this campaign will be greatly appreciated.

Despite his medical issues, he has always shown incredible spirit and courage with family, friends and his beloved New Orleans Saints and LSU Tigers.

Jarrius’ hospital visits and daily prescription medicines have increased. As energetic as JJ is, the constant checkups and appointments wear on him, as they would for any kid that just wants to have fun.

Jarrius has always tried to live by “it takes lives to save lives.”

Any donation you could provide will all go towards JJ’s medical bills and make his current fight go as strong as possible.

Thank you all! And please help spread word

It’s been a while since we updated you all on JJ, so I wanted to let you know how things are going.

JJ’s health is in great condition. We have seen much improvement and many things brighten up JJ’s life after the transplant. He’s now at a place where his main goal is to help other kids that are going through what he’s been through.

Just like last year, JJ is going to be a host at the Pro Bowl at the end of this month! He’ll be interviewing players and promoting awareness around organ donation. Check out our website and Twitter for details on his travel plans and his upcoming events. We’ll do our best to post photos and video after we get back!

We are working on lots of other events and ways to raise awareness in 2018 and look forward to you joining us. Please keep donating and sharing so that everyone knows it takes lives to save lives.

All funds raised go to support JJ’s medical bills and also toward our foundation where we help other families going through what we have gone through. Here’s one article about JJ meeting Jaiden and his family: http://www.wwltv.com/mobile/article/sports/nfl/saints/jarrius-jj-robertson-holds-toy-drive-meets-a-very-special-friend/289-498473380

If you've not yet received a donor match, how does one test to see if they are a match? And what preliminary things are required first, like blood type, etc.?
