Jared's Scoliosis Medical Fund
I am a single mom to a wonderful 15 year old special needs teenager. He is the most important person in my life. On July 5, 2016 I took Jared to his what was suppose to be a normal yearly wellness visit with his pediatrician. I was told he needed to see a Scoliosis specialist because he had a curve in his spine measuring at 17 degrees. At that time we were told they would probably take a x-ray and closely monitor him. The closest appointment I could get was for Thursday, July 28, 2016. While at the appointment we were told the curve had progressed to a 60 degree curve and he would need surgery. Sooner rather than later. I felt like my world had just turned upside down. My heart was crushed. It got even worse when the doctor said he was concern that due to Jared's medical issues from birth (pelvic kidney and motor tics) there might be something tethered in his spine. They sent Jared to have 3 MRIs and 2 CTs on Thursday, August 4, 2016. Well on Tuesday, August 9th we finally received some good news. There is nothing tethered in his spine! Our heavenly father heard our prayers! Thank you all for your prayers. Now since nothing is in the spine they can proceed with the surgery to correct the curve. Due to Jared's spine not being as flexible as they would have liked they will only be able to correct it to a 20 and hold it there. This is a lot better than the 60 degrees that it is currently. If this surgery is not done soon and the curve progresses to a 75-95 Jared would most likely start to develop breathing problems and at 95-110 he could start developing heart problems. We do not want this to happen so surgery has been scheduled for Thursday, September 8, 2016. His recovery time is expected to be 6 weeks which will include in home physical therapy and hopefully home bound school. Many people have asked how they can help me financially during this time as my ability to work will be limited. Suggestions have been made that I setup this account. The money donated will go to paying for rent, electricity and other necessary living expenses as well as medical bills. No donation is to small. Thank you all for your help and support.+ Read More
Jared's Scoliosis Medical Fund has reached 50% of its goal. Thank you to everyone who has donated so far. I really appreciate all of your support.
I want to update and thank everyone that had been praying for my sweet Jared over the last few months. He started back to school full time this week. Although, he will tell you he didn't go the entire week because he missed 6th and 7th period to go to the Orthodontist to have a broken wire repaired. I'm surprised the wire lasted that long since he hasn't had an appointment since before is surgery. He was pretty tired all week which is understandable. Starting this coming Tuesday he will be starting outpatient physical therapy 2-3 times a week for the next 4-6 weeks. We are so incredibly grateful to the people who have donated. A few people have ask if we are still taking donations. Yes, we are! Should you be moved to donate I still have medical expenses that need to be paid. Any amount large or small helps. Thanks again for your generosity. Anne and Jared
Jared had his first out of two follow up visits this past Thursday, September 29,2016. Things went very well. The next appointment is scheduled for Tuesday, November 15 and he will probably be released to go back to school. The doctor said he was healing nicely, but still has a lot of work to do in the physical therapy area. The therapist has been coming over to our apartment twice a week but starting next week she will start coming three times a week. He has been very emotional and has some good days and some painful days still. The Homebound school teacher has been coming twice a week and it's going well. I'm praying for a steady sleep pattern as some nights we are getting 3-4 hrs and occasionally if we are lucky he will sleep 6 hours. A lot of people have been asking to see an after surgery x-Ray. I have attached the x-ray that was taken at our follow up visit. We are still accepting donations to help with bills since I will not be going back to all my various jobs for a least another 6 weeks. No donation is to small every penny helps!
Update 9/22/16- I can't believe it has already been 15 days since Jared's surgery. Each week seems to get a little better. He is getting around pretty well on his walking sticks and walker. The physical therapist comes to our apartment on Monday, Wednesday and Friday yesterday she took him outside for the first time since he was discharged from the hospital for a very short walk. PISD is sending a certified teacher to our apartment on Monday and Wednesday for 2 hours which we started yesterday and so far is going really well. His appetite is starting to come back which is a good thing. His pain level during the day is pretty much under control as he can walk around which seems to help a lot. We are still having a problem sleeping because the pain is worse . He is basically sleeping 3-4 hours a night. We did have one good night on Tuesday when he slept for 8 hours. Wow! I was so excited. We have our first follow up visit next Thursday on 9/29 and I am hoping to get a copy of the after surgery x-rays and I will post them so everyone can see the before and after. That is about all for now. Once again thank you to everyone who has donated and if you have not donated yet no donation is to small. Every penny helps get the bills paid while I am off of work.
