June 14th 2015 is the day our lives changed. Mom went to the hospital very short of breath and never in a million years were we prepared for the news she would receive. She has leukemia… To be more specific she has AML (Acute Myeloid Leukemia). AML is a cancer of the blood stream and bone marrow.
She was transferred to MD Anderson from Baptist Hospital in Beaumont. She is currently undergoing a 28 day induction of chemo. She fit into a clinical trial so a 3rd drug was added to her treatment which has been proven to drastically increase her remission rate. After her 28 day induction she will have another bone marrow to see if she is in remission or if another induction period is required. After the induction she will have around 5-8 treatments done which will be on a monthly basis (so 5-8 months). She will be having blood work done every week for 3 times a week when she is not receiving the chemo.
While she has EXCELLENT insurance (thank you State Farm!) there are a lot of out of pocket expenses she will be incurring while on her journey to a Cancer FREE life! Driving back and forth to MD Anderson, parking, food, hotels, etc are all expenses not covered by insurance.
Not only are we asking for donations, but also for prayers. Everyday mom starts out saying 'Today is going to be another great day'. She has such a positive attitude , I swear she is the strongest person I know, but I know her strength and postive attitude comes from the Good Lord. She says she can feel the prayers, and I know that's what keeps her high and lifted up. Please continue to pray for us throughout this journey. We know we 'can do all things through Christ who gives us strength' Philippians 4:13 and everyday she is proof of it!
We will continue to keep our eyes peeled for Gods goodness that awaits ahead of us and the rainbows that are to come. Even though we will see many storms before the rainbows, we will stand together as a team fighting this ugly disease, and because of that, we have such a strong fighting chance. We are all in this together and with your support in prayer and contributions we can fight this cancer. Gods plan is better than ours and we just have to remain faithful to Him and by His strength, His love, and His faithfulness we will overcome this obstacle and all come out stronger, more faithful and Christlike people.
Trust in The Lord with all your heart, lean not on your own understanding, in all your ways submit to Him, and he will make your paths straight. proverbs 3:5-6
But those who hope in The Lord will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint.
Isaiah 40:31
Fear not for I am with you; be not dismayed for I am your God. I will strengthen you, I will help you, I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.
