James Đặng Heart Fund

On October 3rd,
Our Unit received tragic news of one of our fellow Sea Cadet brothers, SR James Đặng…..

During P.E., James suddenly collapsed and immediately was flown to Stanford Hospital where he remained in I.C.U. under an induced coma for further testing of his heart & brain for 4-weeks. Our young James, is 14 years of age and suffered a heart attack. This medical crisis came as a shock to his beloved family and friends. All of us remain in constant prayer for this brave and strong young man in addition to the loving support of his parents, Ivy & Steve and younger brother, John .

James
is a very active, honorable, and smart young Cadet, who came aboard Chesty Puller Battalion in November of 2015. He began as a young NLCC Leaguer, always eager to actively volunteer, perform color guard, and always supported his fellow comrades in PT, Hiking, Beach Clean-ups and Parades. James excelled in his training courses and advancements as well as in his academics earning many honor achievements in school.

James advanced to NSCC Sea Cadet when he turned 13 years old and attended NSCC Recruit Training the Winter of 2017.   On 14 April 2018, SR Dang, along with his Unit, won the 2018 Seamanship Challenge earning 1st Place which involved first & foremost team work, leadership and many obstacle courses at the US Coast Guard Island competing against the entire USNSCC Region 12!!

Along with all of James successes, his love and dedication to his family is an honorably humble one to admire, especially for one at this young age. His parents, Steve & Ivy, have always encouraged him to appreciate all that life brings, to be humble, to give thanks,  and to always lend a helping hand.

James parents built a solid foundation and this shows immensely in his characteristics of motivation and nurturing of others which inspires his peers and fellow comrades to always be the best that you can be while being respectful and kind to all of mankind. Unity is extremely profound!

During the last 5-weeks;
Doctors monitored his sporadic fever due to the swelling of his brain. His heart beat was normal but the heart attack caused some damages to his brain cells and nerves. His auditory, vision and speech are affected as a result. Doctors were unable to provide a known reason (s) for his heart attack; however, they are now suggesting transfer James to a nursing home for recovery. Steve and Ivy are fearful that James will not get the full treatment to support his recovery at the nursing home. They are actively voicing their concern with the doctors and James’ social worker at the hospital.

Last Tuesday, 30 October 2018, James
had a successful surgery to implant a defibrillator for his heart. He has made great progress since and will soon be transport to a rehabilitation center in San Jose.  It has been a month since his heart attack....

James now has a very long road of rehab and recovery ahead. The long road is turbulent for his parents as well. The family presently has one steady income resource and we fear a financial crisis.

You see, in our Unit, we do unite, we do gather together in support in all aspects and we never let one falter....
For when you join the Sea Cadet Family, You Become Family, We are One Team, One Family and We Are The Family You Can Always Count On!!

So we ask you to please continue to help keep James along his path of recovery and keep him close in your hearts and prayers...for when we unite in devout prayer, we can heal, and we can overcome many obstacles....The road may be long but we can make sure it is not a bumpy one by supporting them in anyway possible.

Remember,
this is the time of Thanksgiving and we ask you to open your hearts, just as James always does for others, and to give in any way possible...

We Are One Sea Cadet Family and We Stand Tall Together;
Honor, Courage, Commitment!!

We Love You SR James Đặng!
