The Pot's Burning: Victim to Victor

I'm Precious Morris,  and I've spent years working with survivors of abuse on their journey toward healing and wellness.   Working with a courageous and powerful group of local women, I recently wrote, produced and directed the stage play, Jambalaya, Okra, Gumbo: The Pot’s Burning (From Victim to Victor).  The play debuted in Memphis, Tennessee to a packed audience of supporters and abuse survivors.

The production received tremendously positive feedback from the audience and community, and the decision was made to take the play on the road to share its powerful message of healing, enlightenment and hope with other communities. 

This production is a special call to healing and a return to wholeness. It is also a labor of love. What makes this event so powerful is that every woman on stage wrote "Her Story" from personal experience. The journey of these woman brought them to this space of sharing raw emotions of anger, joy, forgiveness, peace, resentment, resilience and, most of all, self-love and self-awareness.

I feel so blessed to be a part of this transformation. Domestic violence and sexual assault against women and children is a major problem in the U.S. and worldwide. This production highlights the complex layers of victimization, violence, power, and abuse that occur in some relationships from childhood to adulthood.  This play raises awareness about the issues involved with abuse while creating a space for survivors to find their way to healing and wholeness.
